Sell your bits!
NOTE: This is for members and their private sales/wants.
There are rules that suppliers have to follow (and many of you do follow the rules). However there have been a number of instances recently where "suppliers" have broken the rules.

Suppliers/Dealers or anyone selling with a commercial view in mind CANNOT post here unless responding to a specific request of a member in a "wanted" post.

Suppliers include people "breaking for spares" on a regular basis, when purchasing spares members should ask a supplier what they contribute to the running of the forum

[...] I was under the impression that manufacturers were supposed to offer parts supply up to 10 years old by law [...]
This is often posted on the internet.  Thinking through how such a law would actually be enforced should make one skeptical!  Though if you find that the police have a special Car Parts Availability Investigative Unit, please do let us know, as I have a list of carmakers for them to chew on.

To GreenJMY: I'm confident you'll be able to find another TCM.  Broadening the search may help.  Foreign advert sites like kleinanzeigen.de (Germany) or allegro.pl (Poland) will turn up a lot of used Jimny parts.  Google Translate is your friend.

Also, though it is a long shot, it may not be totally out of the question that the TCM could be repaired.  A specialist technician could examine the circuit board for damage and -- if you are lucky -- there is a chance that only minor components were fried.  For example, if the water shorted a capacitor, but did not reach the ICs (chips) that hold the firmware, a repair could get the TCM working for a relatively small outlay.  I have tried this with ECUs that have failed on me, and though it generally is not successful, one time it saved a completely irreplaceable unit that turned out to have just a failed 10p resistor.  Many manufacturers take engine/transmission/emissions control units back in core exchange for precisely this reason.

Again, this is a long shot, and I mention it just for your information.  If you happen to know someone who repairs electronics for a living, it may be worth having him take a look if all else fails.

Thank you Martin for your help - can the unit be repaired or is the vehicle now potentially scrapped ?

It would be a civil matter not a criminal one so the police wouldn't be involved.

Anyway having a look through the vehicle dismantler listing's or even contacting them to keep an eye out wouldn't be a bad idea. I'm not totally sure of the revision dates but I can't imagine it being specific to 2018 as that's the last year of registration so I'd suspect that you could have luck with 2014 onwards probably, certainly the only one on ebay this morning was 06 to 14 which would tie in. It's also not impossible for that revision to work to some extent but I don't know what was changed, it could be a mounting hole in a different place or it could be a total rework of the code. So yeah ask around with people like Thornton breakers, K.A.P suzuki or James Priestley of this parish they may be able to help.
