First-time owner - help with radio please was created by Flatfendweller
I have recently bought a 2005 Jimny JJV and we love it. It is clean, runs well and seems to be OK but came with no manuals at all. I have now got an owner's manual but there's no details about the radio at all (standard fitted) and I would like to know how it works. The basics I can sort - but there are some bits I don't know about. I can't find a manual anywhere for the radio and was hoping someone might have an idiot's guide.
Thanks in advance

I do not know what the standard fit radio is (I had an old Clarion head unit in my one), however you can norm find a free download of a manual on the web (did this for the replacement Sony I fitted).

Not much help I know but it is a start :)

Thanks for replying. The radio front has no maker's icon on it as far as I can see, but I'm certain it was fitted at the factory stage.
I have tried finding info on the web and have learnt how to remove it (should I want to), how to replace it - but not how to work out what all the buttons do!
I will have a closer look at it and see if there's any hint on the manufacturer's name/details.
Thanks again :)

That's a good idea - it may have to wait until the weekend but if nothing else turns-up then I'll do that.
I know it's daft, but little things make a real difference!

If you have a decent smartphone you can upload pictures from that and most come with primitive editing functions so you might be able to do it from a phone to speed up helping you.

I agree it's good to know what all the functions etc are.

I doubt i'll be able to help as mine had a aftermarket head unit but i'll try as there all the same really especially when it comes to factory units.

I have recently bought a 2005 Jimny JJV

do you mean the VVT ?

is the 4WD select a push button on the centre console

i.e. is the radio/cd unit a single or double DIN type,
i.e. is it normal height about 2.5 inches, or double height 5 inches

Yes, that sounds about right (oops) - the 4wd button is on the centre console.
The radio/cd unit is about 5" high with the CD disc input at the very top, above the display, which is an orangey/red colour when lit. It has 6 pre-set buttons at the bottom.

Thanks

I will take pics on the smartphone, thanks. Jimny at home and I'm at work though!
The radio doesn't look complicated, but the station I tune to fades in and out and I'm sure there must be a way of telling it to auto-find the strongest signal of the band.
That and a couple of mystery buttons!

do you get good reception for the station your listening to on other radios? is it only when your driving that it fades in and out or is it when your stationary aswell? might not be the radio could be the aerial.

have you pressed the mystery buttons to see what happens?they may not apply for your model of stereo, ive had that before where some buttons just dont do anything but they do on a higher spec stereo.
