Late Gen3 with DAB radio

I get the feeling that the standard DAB radio installation (Dealer fit or Factory fit) has an aerial on the screen?

Does anyone have a good alternative installation? If external, how do you get the wire though the body.

I have a Mag-Mount on the roof at the rear. My Gen 3 has a DAB USB dongle and it started getting interference from the 360 Degree camera system, so I placed the DAB dongle under the rear seats and 'earthed it' using copper tape, I threaded the USB cable under the carpet and round the centre console. Then I took the [thin] coax through the boot, behind the side panels and up the rear door trim, tucked it in to the rear door rubber and then out a short distance to the antenna.

The cable is largely hidden both inside and out.

I will find my pictures and post a few.

Paying attention to this as mine was removed and reused when I had a replacement screen and it's not the best.

My windscreen mounted antenna worked very well, until it picked up too much noise from the head unit and camera system. Through many hours of research a mag mint on the rear and the DAB mounted under the rear seat was the solution.

The DAB dongle

You could use your spectrum analyser to check for noise, look around 220MHz or even connect it to the antenna and check for best signal.

Route the cable under the edge of the carpet/trim to the rear door hinge, through the door seal (I used the side to stop sitting water) and then out onto the roof.

I haven't tried one myself although I have heard they do work.

This is the one I bought
www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07PTP2ZMP/ref=pe_27...61_485629781_TE_item

Sadly now unailable, it was £15.99.

Unfortunately, whilst it works well, the top of the magnetic base is now very rusty, less than 1 year, so it needs a coat of Hammerite.

I worked in Maplin, after selling a lot of dab kit, I really did understand that it actually stood for Dead And Buried, based of returned items

I drilled a hole in the roof at the rear approx 20cm from the back end and put an active dab antenna there. It has stopped working now sadly. Other cars got the window Mount like the first picture and they had at least as good a signal as the body mounted one, but they still work and the roof antenna doesn't.
Haven't looked into why there is a poor signal now though.. I Just stream stuff on the phone.
