Morning all, ..just bought first jimny !! the engine had seized , so thought would swap engine, hey presto , but thought would at least look at dmage to current engine , trouble is
there's a symbol on the dash "jimny with padlock" which I presume is an immobiliser of sorts , but can't find way around it to test engine ...is it an immobiliser, is it something else .any help would be appreciated

Yes it is the immobiliser.

A simple engine check will be to remove the spark plugs (under the cover on top of the engine if its an M13AA engine and turn it over with a large spanner on the font pulley.

It could be that the ECU/immobiliser is the real fault and the engine is ok.

I assume you have the real set of keys for it as these should de-activate the immobiliser. Otherwise you will have to start looking at it with a Multimeter and follow through the checks in the workshop manual.

Where abouts in the country are you, I have a code reader that can read the simple codes from the ECU (but not the Suzuki specific codes)

And with a few bits of wire you should be able to persuade the starter to turn the engine.
