JIMNY JB43 2014
35,000 Kilometers
Automatic Transmission

After having my engine and transmission mounts replaced and spent $$$ on it, I encountered a new problem:

Day 1: I noticed a whining noise in the driver side of the engine. I looked and found that somewhere in the power steering pump is wet. Fluid is still in optimal level
Day 2: I saw a drop of PS fluid on the ground and the whining noise still there.

Could this be Power Steering Pump issue? Is this common in JB43?

It's not unheard-of but they are usually fairly good. Was it disturbed during the recent work?

I did not see the repair itself. But that's my theory. They might have messed up something when they replaced the mounts.

This the view from below:

There is a small metal elbow pipe on top of the steering unit. This is fragile and splits with age. It is suspiciously near the engine mount and could have been knocked. Your first picture shows the elbow. Look carefully at it for a split

I don't see any pipe near the engine mount.
But there's an area around the power steering that's kinda wet.

This is the area that is wet, I'm guessing PS fluid. But the fluid level in the reservoir is okay.

When they raised the engine to change that rubber mount the pipe in this picture would have got pulled and it may have split the metal part right at the bottom where it bends.

Clean off the oil from the pipe and the steering box, run the engine and see if it has a slight leak there.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
