Okay so I've been wanting a m16a engine to go into my gen3 but I am starting to second guess myself is the extra money worth it? Or is the m15a engine the best bang for buck? I don't want to do m18a can't find any anywhere where I'm at in the world, well not good ones at least, plus I've heard some stuff about stress on drivetrain and things.

Plenty of people do the swap but I've never really seen much point myself. I can understand that coming to a Jimny from a normal car a Jimny may seem slow but taken in isolation they are plenty powerful enough to be fun without being so powerful to get you into a situation you can't recover. They're also good at keeping your licence clean too.

It should only be pulling about 3700 rpm at 70mph. Has yours got other modifications?

performance wise nothing, unless you want to count a cat-back and a snorkel. I've had a few engine issues so that's probably why, nothnig major but i dont know. laterly i have been seeing over reving when changing gears once i take my foot of the clutch and power down.

Over rev is probably the clutch getting tired.

I have actually wondered myself which would be the best "bang for your buck" upgrade. It's confusing to try and sort options into any sort of order.
Possible options1.3 with a turbo kit - anyone done this?
Swap to 15A - only seen mighty car mods (MCM) do this, not popular because?
Swap to 16A - the most picked option?
Swap to 1.8 - a little hard to find in the UK, so not many.
Most go straight to 1.6A I assume as it's the biggest easily obtained engine, is this why the 1.5 is overlooked?
As I said confusing and very difficult to compare results, even the MCM swap did not make them jump with joy.
But fitting a bigger engine is not going to stop the revs, you are going to need to change the gearing in some way to bring it down. Then you will need more power, but which one?
Can't help myself, but quite happy with my 1.3A on the road in "as supplied by Suzuki" trim, it's the caravan on the back that highlights the lack of power.

going from 205's to 235's did fix the revs for me on highway. But with the catalytic converter being constricted at the time the lack of power was awful.
So I changed to the m16 from a liana. Later found my cat was bad,and changed it, and changed the gears 17% on the high range. If I you do alot of highway I would probably not recommend changing the high gear set with a m16 engine and 235's it is a nice setup for highway use.
As I use my trailer alot, do very much steep hills, living 3-4 hours from any 100kmt highway, i still like my 17% lower high range with my setup.
Ss to wich engine to buy I guess supply and demand plays a role. m16 from liana is half the price of the other Suzuki engines here in norway as the Liana is the worlds most boring car and does seldom get repaired if it gets a minor ding. They all end up at the scrappers in large numbers. The other suzukis are very popular here in norway and so the engines cost more.
We got no m15's here but a friend of mine went to sweden and got one for his jimny. I guess you probably can't feel much difference from a m16.
we got no m18s either.
But more alarmingly we got no g13s. they are all gone from the scrappers so if your 99 jimny gets engine trouble here in norway, it is a major problem.
G16 from baleno is also getting rare or has a million miles to them.
Forgot to mention: the m16 is such a straight swap with so little hassle that if you do not think so mych about the scary bit of "removing the whole engine" there is actually nothing to it. it is a nice job for a couple of nights in the cosy garage if you got the tools and place for it.
