Just to update this thread - I think I've sorted the antenna out but I haven't tested it yet. At least the radio still works so I haven't made it worse! Please point out any flaws as I've just made this up.

My hope had been to screw the antenna directly onto the M6 bolt in the original radio aerial mount, but unfortunately it didn't clear the base. So instead I drilled into my roofrack and made a homemade mount. Tonight I wired the new mount to the radio mount using a coaxial cable and crimp connectors. I don't know if that will work well or not, I'll just have to see. The antenna is very close to the roof in my carpark, so I'll use my radio aerial most of the time with the option to switch it for the CB antenna when required.
