Do OEM tyres have less tread? was created by Rogerzilla
The Continentals on my new Vitara came off for all seasons to be fitted. They've done just over 100 miles but the tread depth is only between 6 and 6.5mm. Is this an OEM tyre thing, or are EcoContact 6 unusually shallow to reduce noise/rolling resistance? I'd normally expect 8mm on a new tyre.

I'd suggest this may be a case of incorrect expectations - in my experience tread depth varies from one brand to the next.
I just measured the tread depth on the spare of my Jimny (it's yet to touch the road) and that was 7mm

Oe tyres are usually shallow on tread depth. A tenner a tyre on 40000 units is lots of profit.

Yes, most manufacturers now fit low rolling resistance tyres to new cars, it means they make less noise and you get better mpg, although they are fairly useless in snow.

I have Contis on my other (non Suzuki) car, I like them and they have plenty of grip, but they are low profile and as such fairly small tread, not a problem as I don’t do many miles. The Continentals on my new Vitara came off for all seasons to be fitted.
