When stopped on a steep incline NEVER declutch and roll back as i see you did quite a few times ...

ALWAYS, put it into REVERSE and drive backwards.

You'll probaly already be in Low Box so its not going very far/fast.

To stop you need to put the brakes on, hence the brake lights. If it's a man.box he may have selected reverse, you don't know.

If it's an auto. he would still have to stop on the brakes, then engage reverse and move back but with left foot on brake.

About the reverse.
I got automatic gear.
When in 4X4-Low the reverse is forcing the car back too strong, and its hard to do small and accurate backward moves. So in those situations when i need to move very little and accurate back i change the gear to Neutral.
In the place where i got stuck there was a pit right behind, falling there would probably end up in a rollover.
