Hello.
After extensive reading of the forum as a guest now it's time to join and introduce ourselves, for we have bought this:
It's old, battered and neglected but never made any problems in the last three months and we are going to take a good care of it. I feel a little bit as if we adopted an old, unwanted dog from the kennels.
It has a few issues, as any extensively used car. So far fixed the reverse light switch, horn and changed the engine, transmission and diff oils. It runs noticeably better already.
In plans: new wheels and tyres, gradually replacing all worn parts, tackling rust, light offroad modding, lots of fun.
And it's true what they say: driving it gives you a permanent grin.

Looks like a tidy JImyn to me it must just need some TLC. Is it a VVT?

No, it's M13A, registered in 2002.
And it's far from tidy on the inside, still needs some work and investment to tackle wear and rust. Starts first time though, and runs sweet. Awesome car. If I had to describe it, it would be "as a russian UAZ, but built with japanese quality control".
Next step is new wheels and tyres, gearbox mount, t-case mount, some basic armour, maybe new springs and shocks, clutch, decent stereo... List goes on. It never ends I guess.

Nothing major at first. Tackle rust, eliminate flutter and vibrations, general TLC. New suspension, but no lift for some time due to insurance. HD transfer case mount, proper recovery points, some bash plates, maybe disc brakes for the rear. Oh, and a new stereo and speakers.
The Dustbin looks good on photos. At closer inspection it is rusty in places, rattles everywhere and whines like a banshee. It was scratched all over when we bought it, after a couple of narrow lanes it's even worse. All plastics inside are scratched and a dog or something chewed on the transfer gear knob. Just basic cleaning took a whole day.
But it never leaked any fluids or oil, not a single drop. The only time it didn't start at first turn of the key was when I have tried to start it with the spare key, unaware of the immobilizer. Took me half day before i had realized. Heater is awesome. Great little car for its age and mileage over113k.
If it survives the next few years till we build up some 'no claims' discount then it's going to get a lift and maybe a couple of deeper offroad mods. Time will tell.
Next planned thing is holiday in Wales in a few weeks. And due to geographical circumstances our way to Wales leads through Salisbury Plain
(edit) Completely forgot to mention that vacuum hubs, miraculously, still work fine
