Shima - Black Jimny Build

So i'm starting to feel better after my operation and took advantage of bank holiday monday.

Got a little bit more done

So swapped the roof basket over but still need to drill the holes in the roof and get that wired in.

Then took on the task of stripping down the green rear axle ready to go over the the black jim.

After some swearing at brake lines and handbrake cables off it came easy enough.

so next task was to take the axle off the black one and within a short time off it came.

While we were under we decided best to take the transfer box out ready for the crawler box

I noticed the bushes in the green axle radius arms were beyond dead and really looking rather dangerous so got the arms swapped with the black axle ones.

Got it under the black jim and started to re attach

shocks and everything attaching nicely.

and this is where we got to on the black one

we started to strip the front axle off the green one (only reason we are taking the front axle is due to new wheel bearings, kingpin bearings, calipers, discs and maybe JUST MAYBE..... The wheel spacers are stuck on :blush: ... but got that mostly off then started to run out of day so waiting for another night/free day to carry on. ITS SO CLOSE NOW. I can't hold my excitement.

As the green one stands now. Looking all sad for itself

looking good Phil, maybe just in time for our weekend away in Cumbria (20/21June) which will include a trip to our now favourite River Crossing

This saturday i got a bit more done on le olde jimny. So it's nearly ready to go now.

first thing i was on my own and couldnt move the black jimny from it's position because it had no transfer box and with the locker and the narrow turning area was just impossible to move on my own by hand so i thought best thing to do was get the transfer box out of the green one and get that in. so i attacked that which didnt take long (You forget how heavy them transfer boxes can be when on your chest).

Once that was out i noticed the output shafts were a bit loose so i torqued them back up to correct torques and thought well while it's out best to put a breather in so attacked that with the drill and tap ready.

got that mounted on the black one and moved so i could jack it up. Have you ever tried mounting a transfer box on a stock front height jimny on the ground. Not fun but i couldnt jack it up because it was on that comfortable stuff we like to call gravel.

So yeah once moved i got it jacked up and on axle stands ready for the front axle to be swapped.

Out with the old which didnt take long (Apart from some really stuborn radius arm bolts)

Then off came the green jimny axle

In with the new (old?)

ran and attached all the breathers made sure all bolts were nice and tight. Applied gearbox breather which is lucky i have small hands because what a PITA that is to fit.

and we are pretty much there

Starting to look like a jimny again .

Just need to flush the transfer box again to make sure there is nothing left in there and change diff oils etc while i'm at it. Then wire in the roof lights and CB oh and maybe get a brake line made up which i maybe snapped on both jimnys getting off :blush:

but other than that we are there

So far so good no real issue's that i can see... for now haah.

I got that new brake pipe made and put on. Bled the brakes and changed all of the oils again then took it for MOT which passed no problem.
I also went underneath and wire brushed it with the drill bit to bare metal where it was starting to go rusty and painted over to hopefully stop that. I still need to underseal the whole thing and wire them lights in but that is for another day.
