Winch challenge Jimny was created by TomDK
So here it is, my Jimny. Still lots of work to be done. But now we can finally use it for the intended use, Winch Challenge
In the back I have installed batteries, 12/24 volt switch for winch overvolting, compressor, spare wheel and aluminium case for tools, recovery gear, food and such
As you can see, some of the wiring, relay and other bits in the back looks a bit half-done. I ran out of time a couple of days before the winch challenge and had to do it quick. So things were bolted directly to the body, wiring done as fast as possible and just made it friday night for scrutineering. Luckily made it through without trouble
Specs:
1.3 G13BB Soft top
Warn M8274 winch with 2 bowmotor 1's, Flamin Fab adaptor.
Delta-tek uprated mainshaft
Delta-tek air-freespool.
12/24 volt switch for winch overvolting. From Land Cruiser 80 series.
internal OMP cage.
235/75/15 Special Tracks
Rocklobster with cradle, all made by Rockwatt
Varta/Exide AGM batteries, 800 CCA 80 Ah.
ORA winch Bumper
ORA +4" suspension
X-Eng Ground anchor
Lockright
All in all, we're very satisfied with the Jimny as it is. Still loads of work to be done. New wheel arches, as it is now, it doesn't look good. Also need to do something about the sharp edges of the bonnet around the winch. And also make the wiring to 12/24v switch, compressor, solenoid, relay more tidy. Find a better spot for the compressor and so on...
Also need some better suspension in the future. It's no surprise that cheap suspension as the ORA kit has it's limitations. And we sure did found out at the challenge Need a bit harder springs, they are just too soft for the weight of the Jimny, around 14-1500 kg's race-ready. Thinking perhaps HD Tough Dog springs. As for shocks, I'll probably go with Hotbits race shocks, when I get the money, they're £260 each. But tailored for the Jimny, and supplied locally
But all in all, very happy with the little Jimny, and we even got a 3rd place at our first winch challenge. only 8 vehicles in the class, but still
last 4 stages sunday were completed only with rear wheel drive as we broke a CV joint sunday morning on second stage.
Last a few pictures from the Challenge. Sadly only from the last 1/3 of the stages which were in a quarry. Most stages were forest, but no pics, sorry.
Now looking back at a great weekend with lots of experiences gained, 2 things on the Jimny really made a difference.
The Delta-tek freespool is one of them. For my co-driver being able to run out with the winch really helped us getting quickly through the winching parts of the track.
Second, the Lockright.
Must admit I was a bit skeptical about it at first. Really wanted and ARB airlocker but couldn't afford it. Knew the importance of being able to lock the diff, we went for the cheaper Lockright. And glad we did
But probably the most important part of it all. To have a fit co-driver you work well with

Thanks Dave.
Heavy clay is what killed the CV joint.. and a bit of driver error
I did consider fastback roof, Idiotmobil.
But after our first winch-challenge I'm glad I didn't get one. Not because it isn't a great product, but simply because it would be in the way and add unnecessary weight to the Jimny

Only 10 kg could possibly get that down a bit

Looks good. Where did you get your Roll Cage from? Ive tried to get one in the past but no joy in the UK... had enough of shipping things from afar.
