Hi, guys! Unintendedly stumbled upon your forum and thought that it's a nice place to ask questions and maybe... give some...

So that's my third car and it was a tough decision. That might sound like heresy on 4x4 forum, but for me Jimny does not have any advantages over my previous car (which i still own, but will have to sell) Toyota Vitz (Yaris) RS package. Does not have any advantages except for one, it's a god damn (tiny, but still...) SUV. So i weighted all cons and pros aaaand Jimny still was not on the winning side. But in the end i still decided to try it. Thing is, roads in my city and Russia in general are... are bad. A lot of bumps, cracks and occasionally no pavement at all... So it really is pain in the arse to drive car with stiffened suspension on 16/205/50 wheels. Sure it feels wonderful on open road with good asphalt, but in all other cases it's non stop maneuvering between defects of the road.

So i ordered this little guy from Japan (my city is well known in Russia for being #1 used Japanese car importer).
That's Suzuki Jimny Jb23w, 660cc K6A turbocharged engine, m/t transmission.


Back then he had no clue where he gonna wake up in a month



Bought genuine Rays TE-37 wheels from friend's Jimny Sierra he owned a few years back.


stock is +20, te-37 is -5 offset, i need new fenders now... Was aiming for -20 offset initially, but decided that it would be a crime to miss on such cool wheels even if they don't stick out much. I think i made the right choice.





I am not a big fan of mudding and offroading in general. I mean it's fun and all, but in Russia it usually means to get as far as you can, get stuck then dive neck deep into mud, struggle for at least 4 hours to free your car, get mosquito bitten over 9000 times and finally get home, preferably happy. I don't think i am looking for that kind of fun. Besides it's gonna be my daily driver, sooo that won't be wise to turn it into hardcore offroader.



I'd really appreciate to hear your opinions on what should i do with suspension. As i see it i have two options, to get Al-Mauj's (Japanese jimny tuning company) 2 - 3 inch lift kit (which comes with procomp or monroe sensatrack shocks) or just get OME lift kit. Japanese kit with monroe shocks said to be pretty soft and comfortable. Just as people describe OME kit. But i don't know if lift OME kit gives is... enough? From what i read it's less than 2 inches. I am planning to get better and bigger tires soon and i guess it's better to have some extra free space under fenders for them to fit, right?

OME is well proven, I don't know anything about the other kit but it looks to be quite complete with panhard rods and brake lines. Unless you are going to regear then you won't want to go too big on tyres anyway so a 2" lift should be more than enough.

Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.

If you want it to be comfortable on bad roads don't fit a lift kit and big wheels! Both of these will make the car less comfortable.

Just leave it standard if your only on Tarmac, why spend on it when not needed?

If i am correct OME kit does not need any castor correction or custom panhards, right? Or it is fair for every lift kit up to 2"?

But lift kit comes with better shocks and springs, no? How can long travel suspension be worse than stock on bad roads?

I would change the Panhards or fit brackets and fit castor correction on any lift, personally I don't think the Jimny has enough castor angle in stock form.

Jimny looks awesome! I'd love an import jimny, they look so different without the arches! Wheels look cool aswell ;)
