Amazing that it fits...but I suppose a 1.8 litre engine need only be a 1.3 litre engine with half a litre more empty space inside it

All depends on the cylinder spacing, and some blocks are the same for many engines apart from the bore size.

Looking at the specs, the bore of the 1.8 isn't much bigger (the stroke is significantly longer) so it could well be the same casting.
