Sam's Scruffy Jimny from Devon was created by samsamsam
Hi all,

A quick message to introduce myself, I'm Sam from Devon and I'm on my first Jimny, and my first foray into offroading and I've been amazed how good they are!

Due to my extraordinarily limited budget, the ambitious green lanes I drag my Jimny up and the plentiful number of rivets I have at my disposal, she's looking a little scruffy! Mind you, with all the potholes and narrow lanes where I live it's pointless being precious about your body work.

I haven't done any modifications, just the occasional bodge to the bodywork, and I think that's the best way to be. If I had an all singing all dancing trial ready truck the greenlanes in my local area wouldn't be half as fun and challenging!

Here's a couple of pics

Really happy to have found such a great forum and source of information! I've been lurking for a good few months and I thought I'd finally join up.

Sam

Thanks! I forgot to mention I did photography at University so am slowly teaching my other half - it's tricky to take photos of yourself driving through mud!

If your driving through deep stuff like that then look at getting some underside armour and extended diff/transfer box breathers.

A TB guard would be the best place to start. Any hidden rocks will damage it.

The extended breathers will stop water being drawn into the diff/TB (and pushing oil out potentially).

Do a Google searching for more info (better than the search on this site).

Thanks everyone for your warm welcome and advice.

TF case bash guard is definitely something I'm going to look into, has anyone installed the one from Jimnybits? I know a few people of fabricating something similar but like the idea of something tried and tested.

Extending breathers is going to be my project next week, just found a good guide online. That's if I can get my 4WD working again. Beginning to worry that not extending the breathers may not have helped the issues!

Was it this one? www.danbp.org/w/Extending_the_breathers_of_the_Suzuki_Jimny

Despite my advice, it's something I have yet to do (its on my very long list!), so I would be interested in the results. Some photos would be nice as well

The Off road armoury gaurd is £15 cheaper than the jimnybits gaurd, but buy the heavy duty transfer box mounts and gaurd as a package and you'll save some money, the standard jimny transfer box mounts aren't very strong as I found out last weekend :( .

It was indeed, I'll see how I get on and try and post some pictures. That guide is pretty good, but I'm not sure I'm going to manage to be so neat!

I'm from the South, mostly lane around Kingsbridge/Totnes/Newton Abbot area. Do you know of any Jimny specialists in Devon?
