Jimny in Japan was created by Jacuzzi
We just moved up to Mainland Japan from Okinawa and picked up a Jimny Kei as a runaround. I always wanted one and although its a bit underpowered with a 660 engine its great for running around the narrow streets out here.
Apart from the Engine size ours has a very different bonnet from the ones I have seen back in England, its more like the mini pajero front grill, I find it nicer looking than the rap over bonnet versions.
I asked the dealer but my Japanese is very basic so im not sure if it was a certain model year production run, Ill have to try and upload a pic.
Looking around on the net I see the diesel is only available in LHD is it much more economical than then Petrol version?. Im finding the Kei thirsty and guessing its having to work very hard to push a heavy car around.

Hi Jacuzzi, welcome to BigJimny ;)

I love the look of Japanese Jimny's and there's some great after-market bits, that we don't ever get here.

Looking forward to seeing your pics.

Sure someone will give you some info on diesels very quickly, it's a great community on here with really helpful members

Looking forward to arranging a bulk buy and cheap postage on some nice jap bolt on bits - mainly front recovery points

Thanks for the welcome guys, lots of old model Suzuki`s out here as they dont salt the roads much in Kyushu.
Will certainly pick up a Jimny when my time out here is finished and I come back to UK, Regular Petrol is about 145 yen a litre so just a little cheaper than Home.

There is a kind of urban myth about Japanese cars concerning the Shaken (MOT) which I hope I can correct.
Yes its expensive but only for people who let the official dealers carry it out. Its not just the inspection but there is a fair amount of paperwork which goes along with it and as is normal in Japan they charge for each bit of paper.
And just the same as a lot of people back home many people here do not lift the bonnet up themselves these days so they accept it and pay up.
Having a small friendly garage back street garage do it for you saves a lot. But like the rest or the world the manufactures dont really want people without an expensive showroom working on their cars any more.
