This is our Jimny!

Spent today crawling under the car installing a wading kit I bought off ebay, and putting a stereo in we had lying around to replace the tape player!

A question to those who have fitted breather extensions; the kit I got is for the two axles, yet I can feel another breather on the transfer box but it feels smaller in diameter than the others I fitted and doesn't seem like there is the room for the set up that is on the diffs. Has anyone fitted one to the transfer case and do you know the size of the tube I would need?

While I was stripping mine down this week - I found there were already breathers that look like original equipment on both axles, the transfer and gearboxes which connect via 6mm bore rubber pipe to somewhere in the engine bay. I've not traced the tube yet.

If you've gone to the trouble of doing the axles, you might as well do the gearboxes as well! It would be a shame for them to fill up with water!

Si

Hi and welcome. From what I remember the transfer box breather is only a couple of mm smaller and was fine with 1/2" pipe with a hose clip to ensure it sealed, The bad news was that I ended up dropping the box to get access to install the breather.

Thanks!

Unfortunately mine only had spring loaded check valves on the axles, and the same on the top of the transfer box.

Think if I could make a 90deg bend somehow I might be able to squeeze something in but didn't want to take the check valve off until I had something to put in its place.

I haven't managed to find anything on the gearbox, but as it sits higher I guess its less likely to suffer from water ingress (i'm not intending going too deep in any water, its more of a precaution).
