Its funny really, i've been looking at Jimny's for months now, asking questions, checking out various websites, watching videos, looking at lifts, wheels, tyres, exhausts, seats, winches and planning things in my mind of exactly how the little truck would look and what I would do with it...........

And then this little LJ came along, how could I resist

My brother is rebuilding a lightweight Landrover and we had it all planned out..........me him and our little boys were going to ride off into the 'Green Lane' sunset

It would be sacrilege to damage a truck in as good condition as this considering how few of them are actually left.............although I am now plotting a new avenue for it

So, am I still allowed to join you guys!

If so, who's brains can I pick on these little LJ's

Regards

Tony

That is stunning! Haven't seen one that tidy for ages, or in a nice colour.

Black Jimny's don't get stuck!

Thanks for the replys guys, very helpful

On the log book it says its a 'LJ80 Q'?

I've checked on google, found reference to it but not what the Q actually means?

It seems that a standard LJ80 come with a 800cc engine, my one has a 970cc.....perhaps this is the Q?
Maybe it was the production 'changeover' period from the LJ to the SJ maybe?

Top end is 'interesting' to say the least.........45mph flat out in 4th and it sounds like its going to explode!

The few gems of research that i've found (cant find much at present) seem to suggest that a SJ410 engine and box will fit thus giving a 5th gear? Makes me wonder if the engine already fitted is already an SJ410........maybe just fit an SJ410 box?

I also really need to find out what bits will fit on it, for example 'IF' I wanted to give it a 2" lift would the SJ components on various sites fit, are they compatible?

I'm thinking:

Restore body
Check chassis and weld if needed
Checker plate out the rear (plus checker plate strongbox for my gun :P )
2" spring/shock lift
5th gear need somehow?
Small bullbar to front
Respray 'Westminster Blue'
New matching blue hood.............Monsoon?
New seats (blue piping?)
Nice boots

What do you think.........am I getting this wrong?
