little jimny's little jimny! was created by little jimny
After the heavy snow last year I decided I needed a cheap, small 4x4. I have an Audi A6 avant and put winter tyres on it so thought that would do fine, but there was just too much snow and the Audi doesn't have much ground clearance! I found a black one on gumtree not too far away and arranged to see it. the seller said the earliest I could see it was Sunday morning, so Sunday morning we arrived at his house only to find he'd sold it thte day before and not bothered to tell me The local main dealer had one, but it was an 08 plate that they wanted the best part of £8k for. We took it for a drive but I couldn't get on with it - maybe it was because there were three of us in it and the salesman was a well built chap! Anyway, two weeks ago I spotted a Grove Green 51 plate at the back of our local garage. I had a quick drive in it and loved it! Maybe it was becasue I was on my own in it, or maybe it was because it wasn't £8k!! It was filthy inside and out and I did a good deal to take it as a trade sale. Here it is;
First couple of days were spent cleaning the interior - the last owner let her dog run all over it with muddy feet. After that was done I cleaned up the exterior and gave it a good polish to brighten up the paintwork. The engine management light was on and the first tank returned 25mpg which was bit of a shock 'cos I can get that from my 3.0 V6 Audi!!! I've had it serviced (there were no stamps in the book for the last three years, apparantly the last owner had done it himself). A new lambda probe was needed, along with new discs and pads, new spark plugs, alternator belt, oil, coolant and brake fluid - hopefully it will be a bit better on fuel now!
I've fitted a pair of wind deflectors and need to do something with the wheels. Refurbing them is my first thought, then I considered a set of aftermarket alloys, now I'm starting to think about a decent set of OEM secondhand wheels. Tyres aren't important - it came with good 'uns, so if anyone has a tidy set of alloys they don't want let me know That's the only plans I have just now other than to get on with driving and enjoying it. It's been great for taking the dogs out instead of getting the Audi filthy dirty. This forum has been a great find - you're a friendly, helpful bunch :lol:

Had a busy day today. I got a set of the OEM three spoke alloys and fitted HUUUUUUUUUUUGE tyres on them, lifted the body to clear them and then tinted all the windows. Then I brought it indoors just in case we get heavy snow - I'm a bit worriedwith it being such a small jeep I might not be able to find it buried under the snow.

It does work - it has a small electric motor than runs all four wheels off a pair of AA batteries. Came as a kit all the way from Hong Kong courtesy of eBay. The paint cost almost as much as the kit!
