Knuckle Bolts was created by Graham
Hi,

Quick newby question.

I have just purchased a Jimny and need to change the bearings (both wheel and king pin) on the front. It looks like the previous owner has tried and failed to remove the brake dust cover and in the processed managed to round the four bolts holding it (and the hub) to the knuckle.

I’m going to destroy what’s left of them getting them out and wondered what size they are so I can get replacements, or should I be getting them from my local dealer?

Cheers

You don't need to remove the stone guard to change either wheel or kingpin bearings so you could just leave alone.

I removed mine today and had the same trouble on one side but had some spare bolts in my magical box of spares I've accumulated.

I kept getting tired of them catching stones in them going through muddy water. Kind of the opposite to what they were designed to do!

Agree with Kirky on that one, I didn't have to take the stone guard off when I changed my kingpin bearings, looks OK for the hub as well from what I can remember.

What was an issue was getting the 4 hub bolts out from behind the ABS ring ( no bearing tool so the hub couldn't come off to remove it) 3 were OK, but the top right one was a pain in the arse cos it was hard up against the ring but still gripping the thread. Several fags, much swearing and a sense of humour failure later it came out, there's only about half a turn to go on it as it hits the ring

mine will be alot easyer to get to the bolts next time as i can take the hub off out of the way nice & easy now cus ive fitted vitara hubs & don't need a special tool to get them off & can fit manual fwh's without the need for any spacers
