If you switch the vac solenoids you will get a flashing green 4x4 on the dash, which indicates a 4x4 failure. You might actually like this to show you are in 2WD Low. Strictly speaking you only need to switch the engage solenoid (the grey wire in the link below).

If you switch the 4x4 and 4 Low wires from the transfer case you won’t see any dashboard lights as the controller won’t know it’s in 4x4.
