Hello, have looked on the FAQ and could not see any mention.

Since having my 2006 Auto Jimny(2 months) I have not tried to move out of 2WD. Today, I loaded the back with 4 bags of sand and drove home. I heard a strange noise and then saw the 4WD green dash light flashing. It has remained and nothing happens when I press the 2WD button, it is remaining in 4WD. I have read the manual about having wheels straight. Any thoughts on the issue or tips to resolve? Thanks

Assuming you accidentally bumped a button, rather than there being a fault, jack either one of the front wheels off the ground for a moment and then try shifting back to 2WD again.

Jacking one wheel up allows any drive train binding that may have occurred to release.

Thanks for that, I have tried it and it has not shifted. Also looked at other suggestions by googling - reversing back, then quickly forward, accelerating/deacelerating hard, holding 2WD button whilst turning ignition on.

So I guess it is a fault, have briefly read about solenoid sticking etc......will do some self looking, but not really qualified. I expect will need to go to a garage, but the problem is they are not generally clued up on a Jimny, so its a learning curve for them too! I can see 2 specialists, one in North Yorkshire and the other in Cotswolds, but its a long drive(in a Jimny) from Norwich......

Any additional advice anyone has is appreciated.

Whilst under the car look for the various wires and plugs going into the transfer box and examine that they are correctly connected even by unplugging and re plugging them and at the same time check the condition of the associated wires for obvious damage and or breaks. The plugs and wires are quite exposed if you have been doing off road activities and don't have a guard.

Thanks. I took it to a garage, and they put it on the ramp and the hydraulic links have been corroded off and not even connected. He says its a bit of a basket case under there. So not really sure how it ended up in 4WD, but i guess linked to the 4 bags of sand i put in the back. But, they managed to get it back to 2WD by starting it up in neutral, and it moved across. Again not sure how!

So its back to 2WD and I hope it will stay there now. I dont need it......
