Rusty discs and faulty steering box

Paid 80000,- NOK to get the 2.5TDI engine fixed on my VW a few years back. changed the head, turbo, intercooler, injectors, glowplugs, camshafts + +
That is 7500 € or two months wages.
Compared to what I saved over the years by doing stuff on my cars, and the lack of devaluation on it it is allmost bearable. Had it since 2010 so per year too it helps.
The clutch change on it was nearly 2000€
(just the clutch, not the double mass flywheel wich is still ok.)

If I buy the parts myself and they do not fit or I do a stupid mistake or have to wait to get time in between the suzukis or get special tools, sometimes it is just ok to get it fixed at a well reputed garage too.

If only all cars where Suzukis..

Using the first q3 on auto trader for details a set of front discs and pads is just over 160 retail trade will be less, give the apprentice the job and optimistically 20 quid in wage and that's 340 to keep the lights on. I know working in agriculture I'm used to working for nothing but that 1 hour job is going to keep all but the most lavish workshop paid for the day and there are 7 more hours available. Mad.

My wife's Mazda 2 has been parked adjacent to where I now park the Jimny for far longer than I've owned the Jimny - never had a problem with the brakes, and she doesn't use it much. I've owned cars for many years, early on at Milford on Sea near Lymington with the gales coming up the Channel, never had a problem with the brakes. Only problem ever has been with the Jimny. Maybe it's Covid car?
Anyway, Suzuki have agreed to replace the steering box at circa $2000 so I suppose I'll let the claim for the brakes (circa$500) lapse. Still pretty shoddy in my opinion.

This was the AA Auto Centre who failed the WOF, who are not cowboys, and if you look at the photos, you'll see why.

Very glad they aren't, mine is already going rusty underneath, next job to get done because of shoddy workmanship. And we don't use salt on the roads here - never get icy roads in Auckland.
