Hi all, I'm after some guidance here please. I'm looking to install some OEM style roof rails on my 2013 Jimny which has just arrived from Japan and as such doesn't have any rails (nor mounting points)

Anyone done this before?

It's pretty clear I'll need to drill some holes and seal against rain etc... But what goes on the inside? Does the UK spec cars have some kind of doubler plate or spreader plate on the inside? The roof is curved at that point so I don't fancy just tightening up bolts.

And does the whole roof lining need to come out?

Any advice/info that would take out the guess work, much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

As standard a uk jimny uses captive studs that protrude through the roof. Replicating them isn't the work of 5 minutes. If you are just wanting to carry stuff have a look in Japanese sites for clamp on cross bars. If you just want the longitudinal rails maybe consider adhesive? Either way have a search as there was a similar question asked within the last few months.

Thanks for the info.

Yes I spotted a recent thread with a similar theme - I think that guy was after an aftermarket rack though (which I agree would be logical) but I want to OEM rails.

I could do with seeing the inside of an original roof skin minus the headlining - that would answer most my questions I reckon.

I don't have any pictures, but the studs are welded onto a curved reinforcing plate which is welded to the roof. What sort of thing are you wanting to carry on the roof?
