Bead lockers - Can you get them, do you need them? was created by benjo
Hi all,
Is anyone out there running bead lockers? I would imagine that given how light the Jimny is, there wouldn't be a need for it. I'm currious to hear your thoughts on the subject. Can you even get them for the Jimny?

Mostly the ones I Seen have been welded to steel wheels on pure off road cars or competition cars.
Depending on rim width and tyre size and pressure if you need them.
I have run 235's BFG MT on 5.5 rims with 0.4 bar pressure and do not need them. And they are not road legal here either.

I would say you probably don't need them. And if you are asking if you do, then that probably reinforces the view.
You should be able to quite safely run down to 12-15psi on standard off road tyres on normal rims without any real issue. Which should be fine for many many types of off road use.
You can run lower for sand. Its more rock crawling where you'll be getting a lot of tyre roll and deflection where super low pressures will need a beadlock. Or maybe in the snow, as you could always hit a tree, rock or some other hard object. Sand dunes or beaches you are far less likely.
Another option is to just fit some inner tubes, which would allow lower pressures with less risk. Although many modern tyres don't play nice with inner tubes these days.
