Fitting a tow bar to a Jimny (Sierra) Gen4 import

I have a Jimny Sierra Gen 4 import and was looking to fitting a tow bar. I have the genuine UK tow bar  that's fits ok to the Jimny Sierra frame. However, the UK wiring kit, that came with it, has  the same connectors as the imported Jimny Sierra but the wiring colours are different so I will have to check them out with a multimeter to make sure I am connecting the correct wires to the vehicle wiring loom. Interestingly, the wires on the Japanese import look like they are a thinner gauge than the wires used on the genuine Suzuki UK tow bar wiring kit. Has anybody else experienced this when fitting accessories to a Jimny import?

Not what you asked, but I suspect that you can't legally tow on the road (I assume you want to if you are fitting the light socket), if the vehicle isn't plated with gross weight & maximum train weight.
AFAIK, JDM vehicles don't have any weights stamped on their VIN plates. Does yours have the weights on it?

www.gov.uk/towing-with-car/weight-and-width-limits

UK vehicles have all the towing data on the V5 as well as on the VIN plate.

Here's mine from a UK car, the max train weight is 1300kg more than the gross weight, Suzuki and the V5 say 1300kg max braked trailer.

I don't know for sure, but as the vehicle had to pass SVA to register it, it won't have the same type approval as a Euro vehicle.

tbh, I'd never thought about it before, I often see Pajeros towing trailers....

I did find this: but he is writing about those people carriers

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

I think you must be right. Had a look at the VIN plate (the one on the headstock on the left handside looking at the engine from the outside) and it has no weights on it. Well, its not too much of a problem as I already have a towing vehicle but would have been nice to have a second one. Thanks for raising this - much appreciated.

I see also from your very helpful link that one person got their vin plate re-issued. They contacted a company called SVTech who issued them with a new VIN for around 150GBP. So this might be another avenue to explore as I am not intending to tow huge weights with the Jimny.
