Thanks you both!
Been listening all day driving and it is definately fromt. Thinking it is likely i changed the wrong side. Or they both had gone. Will Try to tighten tomorrow morning. There is a Split inner race.

If it's tight, then it's as tight as it will get.
Overtourqing the nut will not reduce the clearance in the bearing.
Also a new bearing of installed correctly will not rumble (at least not immediately) even if it is not preloaded correctly.
Must be the other side, or something completely different

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

If you torqued it up first time, no need to tighten it any further.
Tightening it closes up the gap in the bearing, correctly preloading it, then the inner race is one solid piece to torque the nut against.
Then you lock it by dinting the inner flange into the slot in the hub.
It will likely be in exactly the same place as before. If you are worried that opening the lock has fractured the metal, the trick is to take a few thou' off the back of the nut by sanding it on a piece of oiled emery paper/wet 'n dry on a flat surface.
You couldn't over tighten the nut enough to damage the bearing, the hub would either strip the threads or shear the threads off first.
Be careful not to damage the outer flange of the nut as this is the vacuum seal for the hub.
