Visual diagnosis of a worn CV joint

I know both CV joints are finally ruined (again). In fact, symptoms are worse than last time. Except these two only lasted a year because I replaced them with used axes, which initially showed no symptoms. But since I can see the disassembled part, how can I tell if that  CV joint is worn out? Because I'll probably have to buy used ones again, from some jimny that's being dismantled for parts, some wrecked car...

Commonly you are looking for flat spots on the ball bearings or signs of cracking on the inner spider part but this wear can be very difficult to see with a visual inspection especially if everything is covered in grease and very minor wear will lead to quite noisy joints.
