Indicators flashing at double speed but no bulbs blown.

Hi,
I have a 2016 Jimny that has developed a problem where the indicators work but at about double the usual flashing speed. None of the bulbs have blown.
The hand book doesn't show anything about a relay and I can't find much help on the internet. Will my Jimny have a relay that I can change and if it does have one where is it?
When the indicators are flashing quickly I can hear a rapid loud clicking coming from inside the panelling at the side of the nearside rear seat. This seems to be a strange place to have a relay.
Thanks,
Mert1.

Do you have trailer electrics? Coming from the back does suggest you might or may have had such spliced in which may be corroded etc.

The turn signal relay is located under the dash near the steering wheel, see this diagram posted by Martin 10 years ago.

However, Lambert is probably on the right track, if you have a tow bar fitted you have a slave relay and/or buzzer usually fitted behind the trim near the passenger side rear wheel arch and if you have a bad joint or corrosion then that might make the lights flash at twice the speed.  Alternatively if one of the wires on the tow bar socket is shorting out (happens all of the time as they get covered in muck and water) then the indicators will flash at twice the speed.

My former 2014 manual gen 3 did it very occasionally on damp mornings.  Moisture short somewhere in a lampholder, I assume, making the car think a bulb has blown.

I got that too three or four times, after having my hazards on.
But did not pay any attention to it, as all (literally ALL) my bulbs were replaced by LEDs.
