If you have access to the right tools, it's not difficult, space to work is likely to be the biggest challenge - an impact gun is generally the easiest way to get the clutch off and then there should be a large circlip holding the pulley/bearing assembly.
If it's the compressor that has seized, you should be able to just disconnect the lead to the compressor clutch to stop it from engaging and the pulley should spin freely.
The pulley is not spinning at all it is solid it jammed whilst I was driving causing the belt to snap. Would removal of the air con compressor be an easier solution as I don’t need air con
Since I don't know what vehicle you're driving, I don't know what else is driven by the same belt, you would have to check and see what is involved in bypassing the a/c pulley, it might be as simple as a shorter belt. If there's no power steering, you might be able to just leave the belt off altogether.
There is usually legislation preventing you from releasing refrigerant into the atmosphere so if the system has gas in it, you'll need to get it recovered before disconnecting the lines.
Must be the time of year for it ! I’ve just experienced this exact same problem - belt snapped and I hadn’t realised the compressor pulley was seized before I put a new belt on. I think I’m right in saying that the belt will hit the redundant pulley - not by much, but enough to wear it as it looks like it’ll press against the shorter belt by roughly 5mm ?. My original idea was to cut the pulley with an angle grinder but room is very limited so I’m also interested in removing it.
