If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Be careful what you wish for!
The manual setup is much, much better from a practical point of view.
I have to use the manual overrides on my SZ5 to get it to blow warm air on the screen and my feet. In auto it will just let the screen mist up.
When I'm cold I want toasty warm air blowing on my feet, I don't care if the interior is at 20 degrees. Similarly when I'm hot and just got into the car gasping like a fish out of water I want an icy blast on my face & feet.
It is even worse in my EV, that has a heat pump, and it never ever blows hot air no matter what you do, as heat pumps don't work like that.

I myself was toying with the idea of doing the AC "upgrade" until I had a chance to drive along in a car with the high-line system fitted. IMO it would be a lot of expense and trouble resulting in an objectively worse result. Not to mention adding more, and more expensive, failure points to deal with down the road.

I agree with this completely! The manual setup is much, much better from a practical point of view.

Wow, that's surprizing! Tbh, I own a 15-years-old korean SUV (Ssangyong) and have pretty basic automatic climate control system there. It works like a charm, I don't have to worry about starting slowly in winter not to harm the windshield glass, it decreases airflow as we get closer to the desired temperature etc, the interface is intuitive etc. At the same time in my mom's much newer Jeep manual a/c system drives me nuts...
What I like least in the Jimny's manual a/c is its looks But I'll give it a good try before any mod attempts, thank you!
