Hello everyone!

What about chip tuning,  is it working? If so why dont we all have it?  I could 20 hp extra out of my DDIS according to the adds.

With just a chip, you won't get an extra 20bhp and pass an emissions test.  If you also change the exhaust system, throttle body, injectors and cams, maybe!

Turbo cars can get enormous increases from chipping because the boost can be increased - just hold the wastegate shut for longer.

Roger is correct, whilst some engines can be chipped and get increased power and better fuel economy (at the expense of emissions) unfortunately an engine like the Jimny doesn’t. So take the claims of 20hp and divide between 5 or 10 and you might get a more realistic improvement, if any at all.

Some of these ‘chips’ are nothing more than a resistor that goes in the mass flow sensor and fools the ecu in to pumping more fuel in to the engine, they don’t do very much.

Even a full remap of the ecu might not gain 20hp. That’s why no one does it.

As you say a ddis I assume it's not a uk car but one of the French diesel engines, in which case yes a chip would help no end. Unfortunately I don't know enough about the diesel engines to suggest which chip would be best.

If I had a diesel Jimny I'd definitely get it re-mapped. The 1.5 engine is popular in many other vehicles so the potential gain and any downsides will be well documented.
There's very little to gain from re-mapping the petrol engines (the only option in the UK) so we opt for engine swaps instead.
