Battery size - 054 or 057? was created by rogerzilla
057 is what's in the car. 054 is what most sources recommend but the terminals would be the wrong way around - every Jimny I've seen has +ve at bottom right, looking at it with the bonnet open. What's correct? 057 is the right orientation and has JIS terminals, but is a bigger battery.
Car is a gen3 M13A auto.

Yokohama Geolanders, Sony head unit, NAUTILUS Air Horn, DRL conversion, Rear cargo space, Elvis Bobblehead, transfer Guard, Indian hanging Elephant, Koni Heavy track dampers, Custom SS exhaust, Voodoo Doll, Adventure Rack with LED ight bar, vintage ERIBA caravan usually attached (yes it's slow)

I've just fitted a HB057. Universal terminals (remove std terminal to expose JIS).
2009 Manual, works and fits fine

The wiki and most websites list 054 as the correct battery, but as you say the terminals are the wrong way round.
I changed mine a couple of years ago, it has a 155 in. I took a Yuasa out (probably original battery), but it doesn't have a code on it and the battery terminals are the same way around as the 155, no need to re-wire.
The one I took out can't be a 054, the terminals are the wrong way around.
A 155 is 45AHr compared to the 35 or 40AHr for the other batteries.

A Yuasa 5057 is about the best battery you can fit in the standard tray. 50ah, 450a and not too expensive either.

The next step down the Yuasa tree is the YBX3057, 45AH and 400CCA.
That's the same battery that Halfords sell as HB057, Yuasa make Halfords batteries, or at least they did when I worked for them. Very cheap with a Halfords trade card and just down the road with a no quibble warranty.
I believe the one I removed was a Bosch 155 (B33), nothing wrong with that, it was just old and needed changing. Same footprint as all the others mentioned. The 054 has the terminals the other way, +ve near bulkhead in my photo.
So the correct battery is the one that physically fits, any of the above, balanced against how much you want to spend. Generally more Ah is a good thing if you can get it.

Thanks all. Some suppliers do say 057 is correct but 054 seems to be in the majority, even if it's not right!
