Tapered splines are normal. Take the Pitman Arm off and thoroughly clean the splines on the arm and the shaft. Refit and check that any sloppiness disappears as the arm reaches the limit as you push it on. There will be a lock washer and a nut to complete the job plus a whole load of torque. You must apply the torque without putting a load on the shaft.

Thanks Roger, that puts my mind at ease, hopefully I’ve not buggered anything when I done the bolt up.

well it's in, I did have to give the fluid hose nut a bit more beans to stop a slight leak.
The engine management light is now on, I did put the ignition on to lower the window while the mass air flow sensor was disconnected and I'm assuming this is the cause.
My old OBD2 scanner is not working so I'm looking to buy a replacement.
Any recommendations ?
Thanks,
Stephen.
