The engine light has some computer logic behind it. If a fault has not re-occured on two starts, it clears itself. The fact that it is still on means the fault is still there. Disconnecting the battery only fools the logic for a couple of starts and then the light comes back on.
I don't know what year your Jimny is?
If its an early one then there is a connector under the dash that you can put a loop of wire in, this will cause the engine light to flash a code at you which will tell you the problem.
Later models require a code reader, but some code readers do not work with some Jimnys as there is a transition period during which the code reader connection has the later style of connector but the earlier style of code (OBD1) - these are very difficult to get the code out of.
I think you are going to Tong, if so we can read the code for you if its the loop version or you can use my code reader if its an OBD2 later version.

Well there are around 40 codes listed, but a 2004 one should be readable with a standard code reader, I will have mine with me at Tong

Hi,
I have this problem ... and have done through many checks. Diagnosis ranges from catalytic converter problem, to O2 sensor problem, to other sensor problem. Did a change in the sensors but the problem still persist. The light will come on whenever I maintain a cruise speed of 70-80km/h for about 20-30 mins.
End state: decided to get a OBDII scanner and reset the engine light whenever it comes on.

If the lights coming on, and you have changed sensors etc then theres a fault.... ignoring this could be costly if the jimny's anything like any other car I have had.....bad idea to reset without knowing what your doing
