Hi
I want to replace the boot floor, I've registered my Jimny with DVLA as a 2 seater as I use it as a van and to cart my dogs around in.
The question I want to ask is because it has no rear seat belts and the Jimny has a chassis ie the body isn't structural, does the panel have to be welded in place, can it not be bonded?, I have another 4x4 a cruiser, I had to do a small repair in the boot and what I was advised to do was to bond it and pop rivet it in place, in effect the pop rivets hold it in place while the bonding agent goes off.

I understood that patches that are not near the body mount points or seat-belt points can be bonded.

Anything else needs welding

The panel it self is not a part of the seat belt bolts, its underneat. I replaced my panel and used only bonding and a couple of screws.
Its bolted to this bracket under

We do MOT at our shop, no one had any comments to this as it does not do any harm to the frame and structure. I change body panels all the time and do not consider this any problem, but this is not the UK and there is always some a-holes doing MOTs. :)

Seat belt mounting points shouldn't be an issue for me as it is registered as a 2 seater and the rear belts have been removed.

It's quite interesting seeing a picture with the floor removed, is it relatively level?, im thinking now as its a van maybe i will put a flat ally treadplate floor in, that would be more practical for me.

The ally would need some stiffening. A flat sheet would be very weak. Depending on your fabrication skills, it may be easier to fit a replacement floor then put the ally over the top.
