Transmission Temp OBD2 PID

I recently ordered a OBD2 reader from Amazon. I will be purchasing Torque Pro to use with it. With international shipping, the reader should be here in 18 to 32 days. I thought that should give me plenty of time to get the information I need to add a custom PID and create a transmission temp gauge on the dashboard. I haven't been able to find anything on a Jimny specific PID for the transmission temp. Has anyone here already sorted this out?

Thanks
Bob.

The transmission controller sends oil temperature to the engine ecu along the CANBUS, presumably so the engine can idle faster when it is cold and possibly reduce max power when it is over-temperature, but I would only expect a P code if the sensor was reading out of limits, as the actual temperature isn't a fault.

You might find that torque can give you a gauge of the oil temperature via the eobd2 socket, or it might need a Suzuki specific scantool.

Rhinoman might know, but most of us have manual transmission so we've never seen any oil temperature data on our tools.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

What year is it? its probably not CANBus, the problem will be if the transmission diagnostics is connected to a different pin on the socket. The FSM will list the codes available, Suzuki tend to only implement legislated codes on the EOBD interface, other data uses a non-EOBD protocol.

Rhinoman - It's a 2015 sold in the Philippines. Up to this point, I haven't suspected that the protocols used would be different in different market areas, except as required for VVT. That wouldn't seem to make much sense but don't know for sure. Thought that I should mention location just in case since the M13 engine here is non-VVT.

If Suzuki only implements the legislated codes, I don't think transmission temp is one of them. That would probably bring me back to the point facade made. It's quite possible that I would only be able to read the TCM with a Suzuki scantool. I may have made too many assumptions based on my previous experience.

Any feedback is appreciated

Suzuki use the same protocols worldwide which are their SDL protocols, traditionally they have only added OBD2 or EOBD for markets that require it but most of the world is now moving to EOBD so they are starting to include both interfaces as standard. They may well use EOBD in the Philipines if the ECU is also used elsewhere. The early VVT model ECUs used KWP2000, later Euro models use CANBus, if you have a separate TCM then that may use a different protocol to the Engine ECU. Your OBD2 reader should tell you which protocol the engine ECU uses.
