Is the Jimny a permanent 4 wheel drive ?

I wouldn't make a habit of engaging 4wd at speed (unless you have manual hubs that are already locked)

All the front axle components and the front propshaft are stationary, and something has to get them instantly up to road speed, it can only be the little teeth on the gears inside the transfer 'box, 60mph changes can't be good for them.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

When I bought my jimny secondhand at 109k the guy I bought it from told me to switch into 4wd whilst stationary as they had killed the transfer box before by doing it whilst moving. I know the manual says you can but I've never taken the chance and make sure I'm stationary when I switch.
