It's hard to spin the wheel because you have 4 wheel drive and not a lot of power. I don't mean it'll never spin, just that you don't need to be concerned about low gears making you break traction.
One of the mains benefits of wheel slip is that it helps clear the tyre tread of mud so you the tyre can dig and find traction.

If you want to get to grips with the basics of driving offroad, watch a few videos like this. Ignore all the bit's about Landrovers being great though- it's not true.

Thank you for the replies its really helping me:)
I have seen that video before but I think I will recommend watch it having no a new.mind set and thoughts about all the technicalities it may well help :) cheers all! All I can say is I wish I Had my own to play with and learn a bit more.

What drives the car along is the amount of torque at the contact patch of the tyre. That is a function of the torque at the flywheel multiplied by the overall gearing and also the diameter of the tyre. Lower gearing has two effects, it increases the torque at the rear wheel by modifying the multiplier and also it increases engine RPM which increases the torque at the flywheel.

Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.
