Washing the clutch was created by rexthecat
Been having bitter bother with the clutch, clutch is new, cable was tight but didn't seem so tight to me when I looked to adjust it this eve, I slackened it off a bit anyhow and seem to move OK ( I had nearly no drive when I got home on Sunday) will try a bit of a test tomorrow night on the road, trouble is their london roads

I was going to wash the clutch before going out but just wanted to check what I'm doing....so basically it's more washing the shaft I guess as mud there would stop the clutch engaging / disengaging right? So do I need to get someone to press the pedal to wash behind the bearing. Also to wash where the thrust bearing will be pushing onto when pressing on the pressure plate do I sort of need to aim in through the pressure plate?

Is a normal hose on a strong jet OK to use?

I may have got the wrong end of the stick, just trying to work out how it all works.

Cheers

Personally I wouldn't be squirting water anywhere near the thrust bearing, I can only imagine it will lead to premature failure. I stand to be corrected but I don't think mud contamination can be the problem, have you seen the other post on clutch adjustment?
Cheers,
John.

Don't think I have, did a quick search but couldn't find much. Do you have any ideas what might be the cause? Cheers

Ahh ok ta, well I did slacken off a lot and that seemed ok with my very limited test. I guess 10mm free play at pedal end? Many thanks for the help

I suspect you just need a new clutch.

If mud has got in there to that extent, it'll have worn it away like grinding paste. Just like it does to brake pads.

Having said that, there could be grit on the shaft that the release bearing runs on, stuck to it's grease, stopping it's movement.

Don't be squinting water in there though. You could get grease on the clutch.
