Engine transplant

I know this has probably been covered before, but I can't find the answers I want. I know Belino and swift engines fit into the jimny, but I was wondering if its possible to fit a Vitara 1600 in there. I have a 51 plate and I think this uses the same engine as the late sj/sammys? If that is the case, would a vitara engine fit my gearbox without any adaptor plates?
I want a slightly bigger engine with a bit more torque, but can't have the truck off the road for more than a weekend as its my daily driver, so need a quick and straight forward transplant if there is one.
If anyone has any info it would be great. Thanks.

Transplanting a Baleno engine is not straightforward as there is a fair bit of fiddling about and even fabricating of bits (sump pickup etc)
The Swift engine is the same as the Jimny so is a straight forward swap (I think the sump need swapping over) - but exchanging one egine for the same is not going to give you more torque.
The Vitara engine seems to be a fairly straight forward change and I would assume (but cannot guarantee) that this is possible without an adaptor plate if you are prepare to drill holes in the housings. Ash Awbrey (who can be found on www.difflock.com ) has done a Vitara swap recently.

Thanks for the info, I'll send him a pm and see if he can point me in the right direction as I'm already on difflock too. Does he go by that name on there or does he have a screen name? I'm a welder fabricator so new mounts etc isn't an issue.

were in a similar position. We would like a little more power as the little jimny really struggles unless revved. Would like a Diesel engine, but being practical, I think the modification would cost more than the jimny is worth.
We have thought about a swift GTI engine to give it a "Baby Wildcat" appearance and exhaust note (with a new stainless exhaust fabricated). After hearing a jimny on youtube in the sand having fun !
I see that www.dgtuning.com/ do bolt on adapter plates for the 1600 Vitara. This is also a considderation.
