Steering wobble - 2009 advice please. was created by Caulkheader
Hi -
I have had my 2009 Jimny for three weeks now. When I test drove the car I identified the 45mph steering wobble. The dealer assured me that it could be cured. (Main dealer / Suzuki warranty)
Its now due to go back a third time. Its had the King Pins and arms shimmed together with new discs and a five stud wheel balance. The problem is now significantly worse.
I am getting to the point that I am considering rejecting the vehicle.
The dealer is, I think, running out of ideas. I have read the threads on here and other OC sites about the problem but they don't seem to say the problem is permanently cured.
Is it possible to cure this or is it something you have to learn to live with? I love the car and its simplicity but I cant live with the problem, if its curable I will let them keep trying.

I have a 2009 Jimny which I bought new which sometimes had a bit of a wobble when rapidly slowing from speed say 60 mph or so, when it had its first service I asked the dealer to look at it, they had a couple of technical print outs which I managed to get a sly look at, one was to shim the king pins the other was to replace the leading arm bushes, they decided that in my case replacing the bushes in the leading arms was the way to go, it has by and large fixed it but if the speed, road conditions etc conspire the right way I can still sometimes notice a slight touch of wobble.

A change in wheel bearing fixed it for me, but your car is only a year old and can't have done many miles has it?

The Jimny steering wobble is an utter phenomena in most cases...
Even though it must be happening for a good reason... the fittment of a good quality steering damper kit will cure it in 95% of cases.

Here's a topic I started on an Aussie Suzuki forum. We have two Jimnys and both have suffered from it to some degree. It's very annoying and just not good enough.
My 2000 Jimny has had it to varying degrees and has had all bar the bushes and wheel bearings replaced. It's a constantly re-occuring problem with a different fix every time.

Well its still at the dealer. I think they are now looking at the halfshafts. The dealership has now refunded my money and are keeping the car until its sorted, I believe its been referred to Suzuki Technical.
Thanks for your advice on here, its frustrating that a nearly new vehicle is supplied with such inherent faults. It cant do much for Suzukis reputation. That said the dealer has restored my faith in the motor trade they have been more than fair. (TCC Suzuki Ash)
I have exchanged it for a Vitara.

At least you got a result from the dealer, hope it's a Grand Vitara you exchanged it for
