Replacing brake calipers was created by 2013gary
Hi everyone,

Is replacing the brake calipers a job for the skilled mechanic, or is it something I can do myself? I've changed pads and discs a few times before so I have some experience with brakes.

I was able to source refurbished calipers cheaper than my mechanic could get new ones, so I'm not sure whether to have him come and fit them so that I can watch and learn, or just have a go myself? It's quite frustrating because it doesn't look like too difficult a job... but then I could well be underestimating it.

if you can change the pad and discs than you should be able to do the caliper

Just make sure to bleed them all down properly before test driving and to not round the bleed nipple then you will be fine!

if re-assembly is your concern (lets face it anyone can take something apart its putting it back together that gets ya) take pleanty of pictures of the process as you disassemble.

Doesn't really apply to disc brakes but I always just dismantle one side then you always have the other for reference. Used to find that helps in drums so that you know where all the springs go lol
Spray the bleed nipples, bolts etc. with WD40 or similar a couple of days before.

I started off high and worked my way down ever since :-)
