Something wrong with my rear prop. Picture within.

Your second picture clearly shows a mangled end to the original boot complete with a distorted metal hose clip. If this is correct, then the original boot cannot be repaired.

You now have options. You can leave it as you have repaired it and hope for the best. You can certainly put it back on the motor whilst you investigate the availability of a suitable proper boot, propshaft repair companies would be a good place to start. The plastic end cap should prise off and you will probably find a circlip retaining the shaft to the CV unit. If the circlip is square section, then you can remove with suitable pliers or small screwdrivers. If it is circular then an amount of force is required and I am not about to tell you how to do it without seeing the unit for myself. Sorry, but damage can occur and I don't want to be held responsible.

Roger, were you looking at the first pics in this thread? They were from a different poster (Coog). As you say, in those pics you can clearly see a classic boot failure where it has split all of the way around. As a replacement boot is apparently not available their repair was about the best anyone could do under the circumstances.

I will go and take some clear ones and post them when i get the time. I seem to fix the issue though by changing the clamp of the boot, as i figured the boot itself was not torn but the clamp had come loose for some reason. I also put some liquid gasked at the front where the axle connects with the transfer case because it looked like i was missing some grease from there as well. The grease in that cv joint/axle compartment was also more liquid than cv grease is supposed to be and i suspect thats why its escaping. Since i got the car used i think the previous owners had changed something in that axle and i suspect they used whatever grease they had handy at the time. I took a look and there is no damage to the cv joint, but whenever i get the time i will clean and put proper grease there.

My rear prop is also missing the boot and has developed a clunk and some play.

Does anyone know if it's possible to disassemble the flange to get access and replace the bearings/CV joint inside? From what I've read in other forum posts it sounds like I'm up for a replacement of the entire shaft.

There are no easy fixes for the CV joint in the prop apart from swapping the whole lot out with a used one.

However a local prop specialist said they could do it although I have never ask them to actually fix one.
