Engine fault light - which code reader do I need? was created by discotroll
Well..
The good news is that after wrecking a piston in my 02 Jimny I stripped it all down, replaced the piston and put it back together (IN MY DRIVEWAY, IN THE SNOW  ) and it's all working fine.
Bad news is that 3rd trip out and the engine management light has come on permanently.
I'll have a good shuffle around under the bonnet to make sure everything is attached okay but engine is running as smooth as I could ask for from the little unit and no-one on the forum seem overly concerned when this happens - question is (yes - I'll get there eventually) is what kind of reader do I need from ebay to read the code - is it a universal one thar reads 'CAN, KWP 2000, ISO 9141-2, PWM, VPW'? Worth the investment anyway but don't want to buy the wrong one!
Thanks,
DT.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

IRRR, you have the single cam engine, so you need the Rhinoman one, that is now available from the shop here.

By the way - I *have* ended-up with a 'spare' connector block that doesn't seem to connect to anything!!
It's light grey, 3-pin female and exits the wiring loom just behind the alternator. It's only on about 10cm of wire and I can't see anywhere that it could connect to - am I right to assume this is unused on the soft-top Jim?
