What the............. was created by JivingDaddy
As some of you will be aware, I bought the CO an O2 a few weeks ago and almost immediately suffered the infamous Death Wobble. Following greatly appreciated advice and offers, the whole kingpin assembly was changed, grerased, etc and wheels rebalanced. Complete success, absolutely no more DW.
BUT, driving to B&Q earlier today (to get a stronger padlock for the CO's chastity belt) I hit 45 and the wobble came back. I slowed down, swore a lot and continued to B&Q. I checked the wheel weights in case they had come off, but there they were. Swore a bit more and went into the shop.
On the way back, no more Death Wobble. I drove the long way home and went up and down thru 45 many many times just to make sure and all is OK.
I'm not complaining, obviously, but how strange. How can DW come and go without any work/adjustments having to be done? I am now wondering if there is something on that particular piece of A road that could have caused it. Could that be it? I will have to check tomorrow.
In the meantime - Any ideas, you clever lot?

did you fill up with fuel after B&Q
I've noticed that additional weight in the rear can often work as a temp fix :S
I got the wobble simply changing from standard 205/70R15 tyres to 205/75R15 ATs - pretty sure that Martins shim kit will sort it, on the to-do list
mine's OK today - must have been all that crashing around off-road yesterday :pinch:

I was having the exact same problem. See the "not another death wobble thread" I started.
www.bigjimny.com/index.php/forum/7-jimny...hread?start=12#63385
Tried most things with no luck and was frustrated that sometimes it would disappear.
Yesterday I fitted 4 new tie rod ends and am happy to report the wobble has totally gone and the steering is nice and tight. :woohoo:

Thanks Halford & Licksan.
No changes at all to the load weight. It just fixed itself. Really strange and rather perplexing.
If increasing the weight in the back helps, I'll move the CO to the rear seats if it happens again.
Tie rod ends? They seem OK, but will have a more detailed nosey during the week.

Mine seemed ok too. On previous fault finding checks I had given the steering and drag rods a good waggle listening for knocking and watching for movement but found nothing so didn't pursue any further.
Getting desperate to try and solve it I figured it was one of the cheaper things to try so worth a go. Surprised but happy it's solved my woes.
Good luck, it's a frustrating problem to diagnose!

How bizarre, I too changed the tyres, and now have a wobble that comes and goes ?? was absolutely perfect with the standard bridgestones. Now running on Goodrich all terrains, the wobble happens between 40 and 45, sometimes not at all ???
think I'll fit a steering damper...........
