Another Kingpin related topic. Sorry! was created by horam_jimny
Hi Guys,

Sorry to be starting yet another kingpin topic but after searching the archives I couldn't find the answer.

Firstly after reading the "How to" guides (very helpful!) I'm confident I can tackle the job but my only concern is removing the bearing cups. In the guide there is a handy tip for welding a spot onto them to aid getting them out. Unfortunately I don't have access to a welder so does anyone have any good easy tips for getting these out? I really don't want to end up with the hubs and joints all in pieces on the floor and no way to remove them!

Secondly I'm also sure the nearside wheel bearing has also gone as I can hear a ticking/vibration coming when cornering to the right at about 40-50mph (ie nearside wheel is under load). I have bought the kingpin repair kit (plus grease and sealant) from Bigjimny.com but not got the wheel bearings and hub tool yet. What I want to know is if I replace the kingpins and oil seal but not the bearings yet (as cant afford it) will the bearing then wear the new oil seal and cause problems? So should I change the kingppins now and the wheel bearings in a month or two or wait for the new wheel bearing and replace the lot?

Cheers guys

I knocked the bearing races out with another socket and socket extension. Easier than the welding method.

As above for the removal.

Check the tyres back and front for nails in the tread before you change the bearing ;)

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
