If your fitting a winch whats the need of a front recovery point unless the winch packs up
could you not cut the center bit of the bar out then weld a good thick plate to the cross member and front legs then see how to weld the bar back in

Mark, I am thinking that is what I am going to have to do, I want to retain the recovery points really as they will be usefull. I think I just need to get it ordered and offer it up and see what is going to bethe best way to fit it.

Thanks for the advice guys the more I think about it the more I think it is a bad idea fitting it in position B. I wil keep you posted on what I decide to do :)

Sorry guys more questions, I am still undecided how to mount the winch but I do want to retain the standard bumper and recovery points I therefore need to retain as much of the cross bar I have to retain the strength in them.

I think I can mount it with cutting a small section of it out however this would leave the handle to lock/ unlock the free spool hidden and not accessible. I have been looking and see that this is quite common on fitments behind the standard bumper.

How do people get on with this? Do you have to slide you hand in at a funny angle and switch it over :P or do you just let the winch out on the motor and never use the free spool option?

Well, you can't have everything :-)
Don't expect to be on a budget and get everything :P

Forget about that recoverybar, it's not the only way of fitting recoverypoints, and it will make mounting the winch so much easier.

You could try and sell that winch you just got, then buy a Goodwinch TDS 9.5c instead. Superior in quality and speed. And plenty of power for you. And, with lots of addons to buy later. In you case the Air-operated free-spool would probably be great :-)
