Following a rather interesting and hair raising situation on a green laining trip with mudman and a few guys from invicta 4x4 I am thinking about getting myself a winch.
You can’t quite see in the below pic but there is about a 10 foot drop to the right of my Jimny and about 2 inches of snow covered mud between by tires and the edge. It was a very tight squeeze around the tree on the left and a large root sticking out from it. One if the guys with us had a Land Rover 90 and struggled to fit past. Without a winch and some clever work with strops attached to the rear of his car he would have ended up at the bottom of the drop, most probably on his roof
Anyhow, I would prefer to mount the winch and still retain the standard bumper, as some of you may know I used some steel bar across the front to attach the recovery points as below.
I don’t want to have to cut this out unless I really need to, therefore if I can extent this down a bit and mount on to it sideways it will be a real benefit. Does anyone know if there would be any problem with mounting a winch in position B below appose to position A. I am just wondering if it would be putting stress on the bolts and winch itself in a way it is not designed to.
Any help will be really appreciated.

This is a damn good questions if im reading it rite your concern is you will be stressing the bolts and feet along there lenght and not putting them in shear as in in your 1 st diagam ???? have to say im really not sure about this one with the forces involved but a quick Email to David Bowyer im sure he will have a answer for you on this one

Thanks Dave, I cant really see why it would be any different but you never know and with the strain involved it is not something you want to mess with.
Thanks Tom however I dont really want to have to cut off what I already have and to use the offroad armory plate I would have to remove the bar pretty much alltogether.

if position b is the winch in front of you & bolts in from behind the winch i would say its not the best idea but if its winch in front of you & bolts in from front then its a very good way to bolt it in
