Check carefully that you don't have a broken spring. The last coil snaps off, and it is quite hard to see.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Gidday Mate,

I had the same sound coming from my 05 Jimny, I have a 50mm Old Man Emu lift in it and I thought that was the issue. But I had to do a kingpin/swivel hub overhaul a couple of weekends ago, and since I have put new kingpins I haven't experienced the noise again. So it may be worth checking your kingpin bearings.
